Builder Babes Workshop

All Female Carpentry Camp
to Build a Zome Greenhouse

Join us for one or both parts of our All Women’s Build Retreat @ New Sky to construct a Zome greenhouse!

Ever wanted to learn how to use power tools, work with wood, and learn other building basics – but never had the space or support? This carpentry workshop, lead by professional Builder Babe Aleesha Anderson, will cultivate a space where women identifying individuals can learn building skills in a supportive, confidence-building environment. During our time together, participants will learn to use power-tools, build and assemble a structure using a plan, and experience the deep satisfaction of constructing something meaningful with their own hands while connecting and building community. Leave with new friends, lifelong skills and empowerment!

Weekend 1 – Sept 24-28
Building the Pieces: Carpentry & Woodworking Intensive to teach you how to plan, measure, and cut materials.

Weekend 2 – October 1-5
Assembling the pieces: Tool use and building technique workshop teaching how to assemble the pieces and complete the final structure!

The Structure

We will be building a Zome greenhouse! — organic, geometric, functional, and spacious enough to involve many hands. This unique alternative structure isn’t your typical framed wall build but it involves all the same tools and skills and problem solving (arguably more than a traditional structure). It embodies both natural form and mathematical beauty.

What to expect…

..A rustic, off-grid property w/ epic nature, vibrant colors & a full sensory experience
..Morning bird songs, wolves howling at a nearby retreat & vibrant sunsets
..Potential for cold evenings and/or wind accompanied by warm sun and clear stargazing
..Permaculture style bathrooms, historic rehabilitated buildings, & ample outdoor space
..3 full days of guided and hands-on Instruction each session in tool use, carpentry, structural concepts, and safety
..Mostly open air building, with some sheltered workspace
..5-12 female identifying participants each session (no building experience required)
..Delicious, healthy meals using fresh, local ingredients beginning the evening you arrive and ending the morning you leave
..Early evening arrival on Thursday
..Morning departure on Monday
..Option to stay days between workshop weekends for women joining both sessions, free of charge

All guests will be provided with…

..A campsite (Tents/gear not included, but can be rented in advance. We welcome Vans and Campers on wheels!)
..A shared outdoor permaculture inspired bathroom (W/ ‘biodigester’ composting toilets and a solar shower)
..A wood-fired sauna for post-workday use in the evenings
..Various communal gathering and retreat spaces
..Guidance, facilitation and structured support from your workshop facilitator
..Communal tools (You are encouraged to bring your own if you have them, but having your own tools is not required.)
